In Nigeria’s post-oil boom era, Aisha Udochi and Yunnan Chen explored the potential of Chinese engagement in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. Can Chinese entrepreneurs and investors contribute to knowledge transfer, local development, and structural transformation? Abdul-Gafar Tobi Oshodi added his views based on his work on Nigeria-China economic engagement and development impacts.

Aisha Udochi is a doctoral student in Economics at Howard University and an Africa-China researcher concentrating in growth and development theory.
Yunnan Chen is a Research Fellow in ODI’s Development and Public Finance program. Her work centers on the changing development finance architecture and the role of global China.
Abdul-Gafar Tobi Oshodi (discussant) holds a PhD in Social Sciences from KU Leuven and lectures in the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University (LASU). A former journalist at Vanguard newspaper, he was a fellow of the Social Science Research Council’s (SSRC) Next Generation of Social Science in Africa programme (2013-2014) and a University of Edinburgh’s Centre for African Studies Catalyst Fellow and Non-Residential Catalyst Fellow (2019-2020).
Yoon Jung Park (Moderator) is the program director of the Africa-China Initiative at Georgetown University. Her research primarily focuses on Chinese migrants in Africa, African perceptions of and responses to the new Chinese migrants, and preliminary impacts of these migrant communities, particularly in South Africa.
